Create Your Own Destiny
This month the Universe has provided us with a few testing alignments, more negative than positive ones this time, so we will need our wits about ourselves to cope with whatever comes our way to challenge us. No particular planetary alignment should be dreaded, as it is just that as fragile human beings, me may not understand the message the Universe is trying to make us see and learn from. We mere mortals are often confused by what the lesson is, and then we misinterpret the energies and then make our errors of judgement. It is then, and sometimes only then, that we may get the message loud and clear, after the mistake has occurred. We are then in a clearer frame mind to accept that we are the creators of our own destiny. It is not in the hands of the Gods, as some believe, it is in our own hands, by our own choices. These choices will lead us towards a happy life or a sad one.
Understanding our inner selves, via astrology, can teach us why we do the things we do, and why we may sometimes make bad choices for ourselves. The more we know ourselves, the less likely we will sabotage our own happiness.
Now to the changes in the skies that can direct us on the right course, please read my humble observations below.
Three planets move into the earthy sign of Virgo this month, namely the Sun, Venus and Jupiter. Mercury also turns retrograde, yet again, on Thursday 28 August on the same day as a New Moon in Virgo.
These planetary movements from one sign to another are listed below, giving more specific information as to how we can utilise these changes to our best ability.
On Tuesday 12 August 2003 there is a Full Moon. (Sun in Leo/Moon in Aquarius). As these are two fixed signs of the zodiac, some of us may not want to budge in our opinions or decisions. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on where we are coming from, and whether our choices are for the good of everyone, or just for ourselves. Someone in power may make an irrevocable decision about their position in life and abandon their post or role, due to a belief that they do not have to tread the path of conventional behaviour. This erratic or unpredictable occurrence will cause shock waves for those in close range. This may reflect in the life of someone in royalty or who is in a high position in life.
Friday 22 August 2003: Venus moves into Virgo for a stay of 25 days. During this time, we may notice that health issues are of more importance to some, especially matters involving hygiene and cleanliness. This would be a good time to start a cookery course, especially one that may lead to an income as a chef or restaurant owner. Some people can become quite materialist during this time and put this ahead of their love lives. It is likely that there can be a slump period for weddings, as people become more fussy about what they want, or do not want, in relationships.
Saturday 23 August 2003 the Sun moves into Virgo and this month long transit puts the focus on services and health issues and people in the public service. There could be a focus of news related to these matters that bring one particular item into the spotlight. This is a good time to spring clean, get tidy, get more organised and perhaps even focus on a new health regime. Someone currently working in any of these related fields may receive a promotion or other assistance up the ladder of success.
Wednesday 27 August 2003 Jupiter moves into Virgo for a stay of approximately 13 months. During this time there will be expansion in the areas of health, perhaps more hospitals receiving benefits, upgrading, expansion, additional funding and/or renovations. Health services will be seen as a priority and the care of those in need, whether the ailment is mental, physical or emotional. Some wealthy people may make large donations to the health industry or to hospitals etc. However on the negative side, some may tend to over exaggerate the small details, which may tend to make them not see the forest for the trees, so to speak. Fault finding will be noticed in the extreme and people with an eye for detail will see the warts and all. Unemployment may rise and be the focus of attack during this time. Sensitivity will be high if criticism is unjustified or incorrect.
On Thursday 28 August 2003 Mercury turns retrograde. (See my feature article on my website for an in-depth comment on this). However briefly, it is a time when people seem to go into an indecisive mode, or they make a decision and then renege on it at a later time. For some though this can be a good period for mental reflection and deep thought to understand what it is that you truly want to do. Often writers are highly productive during this time and some people are able to get lots of paper work done. Some have to re-trace their steps, or send that fax twice, as there are glitches and hitches that can get in the way of clear communications. Not the time to make major decisions if you can help it. As this influence will last approximately 23 days, it can interfere with plans and arrangements, such as to do with travel and tickets, and time schedules. If you travel to a particular destination during this time, you may later go there again in the future.
Also on Thursday 28 August 2003 there is a New Moon in the sign of Virgo. This can be a time of high focus on getting things decided upon with great clarity and precision.
On Friday 29 August 2003 Pluto resumes direct motion at 17 degrees and 14 minutes of Sagittarius. I will quote here my comments on Pluto moving direct which I wrote about previously in August 2002, when Pluto moved forward in this same sign of the zodiac, and I quote: "The mighty planet Pluto finally decides to get its act together and move into forward motion, so if you have been mulling over things associated with your past and attempting to set things right and rid yourself of excess baggage, whether that be emotional, or in your accumulation of goods in your home, you may now have a breakthrough and be able to move ahead in a much freer state of mind as if you have wiped the slate clean once and for all. It is time to leave the past in the past, move forward with confidence and a new philosophy that will be more appropriate to your current status and position in life. Some of us will have grown and become more mature during the retrograde phase and rehashed over many things from our memories that have haunted us and held us back. Now we can rise again, like the Phoenix, and start a whole new era", end quote.
Also in a previous article I wrote, and I quote: "Pluto is the transformer, so this now heralds the time to get things moving. I personally am always so much more positive when Pluto is moving in direct motion. It is then that I feel things are on track. Pluto is nearly halfway through the sign Sagittarius and therefore those of us who have undergone some alteration in our beliefs and views on life are pretty much settled with this now. Pluto will remain in Sagittarius until 27th November 2008. It will actually dip into the first degree of Capricorn commencing in January 2008 and then slightly retrograde back into Sagittarius in June 2008 for a very brief stay of just five months and then proceed full steam ahead into Capricorn in November 2008" end quote.

Tuesday 5 August 2003: Mercury sextile Saturn. This is the kind of day to get truly focussed and organised, especially with paperwork, telephone calls and any demanding job that requires concentration and attention to detail. Maybe balance the cheque book or start a new study course. Jobs commenced today may have long term obligations involved so if you are mature and keen to plant the seeds for things to grow slowly yet surely, take some action and get started today. This is also a good time to sit down and do some serious planning for your future. You will feel organised and enjoy the challenge of putting your life in order and meeting your obligations. Any new business proposal can be considered to be worth your effort or investigation.
Sunday 10 August 2003: Sun trine Pluto. This is a great time to try to remake yourself or change your spots, if you need to. A day to spring clean, get rid of the old and outworn and be refreshed by the newness of starting out on a new path. Someone in power may take a gigantic leap forward or be presented with an offer that almost seems too good to be true, but it will ultimately change the course of their destiny. A wonderful day to get married or start some new enterprise that involves reform or renovation in any way. If you wish to pull down the walls and rebuild them, this is the best time to do it. New relationships formed today, whether friendship or intimate, will literally put your life into a different perspective and possible change your life forever.
Tuesday 12 August 2003: Venus trine Pluto. What a great day. I love this kind of planetary formation. If you should happen to meet a new lover under this influence you will be radically changed overnight. This new person will seem magnetic and passionate. You may feel you have been put under a spell, and in a way you are right. This influence is deep, hypnotic and highly sexual, so expect to go into a relationship and become totally and intimately involved, and very quickly too. Also a good day to get married, start a new business enterprise especially if it involves regeneration themes, getting fit or to do with women's products and services.
Wednesday 13 August 2003: Mars trine Saturn. This can be productive for the automotive industry or any other industry involved with machinery of all types. Those who make long term investments, especially those involving the real estate business will profit from this further down the track. If you can keep your nose to the grindstone, your abilities and efforts will be recognised by those in authority over you. Perseverance, dedication and endurance are the qualities that can be drawn from this alignment so put them to good use while you can. Your energies will be backed up by your determination to plod on until you reach success.
Tuesday 19 August 2003: Sun conjunct Venus. This lovely alignment that is great for getting married, engaged, starting a new romance, going on a first date, opening or investing in a florist shop, or anything associated with music, art, women's products or decoration of any type. A big party held tonight will go down especially well. This is perhaps one of the better days of the whole year, so go out socialising and see what develops.
Thursday 21 August 2003: Venus conjunct Jupiter. This is a lovely day for a wedding, a huge banquet or other gigantic social occasion or a charitable event to raise funds. People will be inclined to be both generous and extravagant. Getting the good intention behind any supportive action, as mentioned, raising funds for a charity, would be well received and prove to be successful. The cosmetic industry will be busy and profitable and any business connected to flowers, perfumes and items of beauty and adornment. A new clothing store focussing on the most refined and fabulous looking women's clothing would be very in tune with this planetary combination. Any new relationship, friendship or new romance started today will be just wonderful and bring out the best in both people. A blind date will more than likely turn out very positive and happy.
Friday 22 August 2003: Sun conjunct Jupiter. This is a beautiful alignment of the life-giving Sun with expansive Jupiter. It can provide us with the inspiration and faith to get any new endeavour under way with enthusiasm and sincerity of purpose. Open an entertainment centre or have a huge banquet or festival then and it will go off like fire crackers on New Years Eve. This is also a good day to get married, start new friendships and any project involved with gold, glamour or places of amusement or the publishing industry. It is also one of the better kind of planetary times to commence just about anything that is important to you. A new store or business opening today would do well if focussed on books, publishing, the travel industry or to do with the law. If you strive for success on a day like this you are likely to achieve your goal. This is also a good time to start an overseas holiday.
Sunday 31 August 2003: Venus sextile Saturn. This is the type of alignment that suggests a good time for entering into new negotiations, friendships or marriage. New businesses involved in the finance industry, or to do with women's products and services, florists and perfumes will prosper if your are prepared to stick it out for the long haul.
The not so favourable days in August 2003 are:
On Friday 1 August 2003 Mercury opposes erratic Uranus. This can be a day or alarming news or unpredictable vocal demonstrations of impatience and the inability to do what is right and/or conservative. There could be outspokenness to an unusual degree in meetings or other gatherings of people, and many with differing opinions. Rebels and wayward people will be pushing the buttons of those who are less liberal in their philosophies. The angst may also reflect amongst the younger generation who do not wish to adopt conservative ways of doing things. Not a good day to buy a computer or other electrical or technological devices or gadgets, especially computers, whether that be the hardware or the software. This is the kind of day when there will be a spanner in the works, so don't expect things to go according to your plans. Travel is not particularly recommended for today, especially by air or water.
Monday 4 August 2003: Sun opposition Neptune. This alignment is potentially very secretive and people are prone to be susceptible to major confusion. Some people will camouflage their true colours, so for those who are wearing blinkers, you may suffer at their hands. To put it simply, as I have said before, trust everyone, but cut the cake yourself. Drugs may be found all over the place and there may also be some drownings reported or contamination or poisonings occur. New friendships formed today need to pass the test of time before people are considered trustworthy. Someone in power may be on an ego trip and try to call someone's bluff on a major issue.
Wednesday 6 August 2003: Mercury opposition Mars. This is not the day to buy a new car, start a new business or take on more than you can handle. Some people may make hasty or rash decisions, and will wish they hadn't very soon after. Some people may stretch the braun or the brain, or both, and end up with sore muscles or a headache. I would not advise starting a long road or rail journey. The news may not be what we want to hear and bad news tends to travel fast on days like this too. Also don't expect people to be patient or tolerant today and do not attempt to reach amicable agreements as people just won't be in the mood, or just too rushed to listen. Some people may not take enough care with their speech, taking one foot out of the mouth only to replace it with the other foot just as quickly.
Friday 8 August 2003: Venus opposition Neptune. This unhelpful alignment may lure some people who are planning to mix business with pleasure and this brings about disappointment, loss or other confusion due to outright deception or serious camouflage. It is not the time to commit to a relationship or even a friendship, for there is likely to be something glossed over that hides the real truth or some elementary ugliness. An apparent secure relationship may come unstuck and reveal a trail of dishonesty, treachery and lies. Those who live life on the surface and pretend to be happy will be faced with having to show their dirty washing and even then, there may still be something lurking in their pockets. Check all your facts and any new faces you meet today.
Wednesday 13 August 2003: Mercury square Pluto. This is an aspect that will test those who are trying to push their wares or ideas on others, for resistance will be felt, though not overtly, it could be very subtle and hidden from view. Documents, alarming news and propaganda will claim the mass attention in some way so be alert and read everything thoroughly that you have to sign. Preferably wait for a more fortunate time to commence any new undertaking, especially if it involves taxes, insurance, or other joint monetary ventures. We need to guard against being manipulated or coerced into something we would rather not do. People who insist on digging up old matters from the past will find they cannot heal their wounds just yet. It is too painful and too confronting. Most communications are likely to be mistrusted whether verbal, e-mail or by letter. Documents may be misleading or have loop holes that are indiscernible. Agreements are unlikely or will be fraught with problems.
Saturday 23 August 2003: Venus opposition Uranus. This could be disruptive to plans involved with relationships or social occasions. Upsets and unexpected conditions will interfere with plans so make sure you have other options to divert to quickly if needed. I would not advise starting any new business or romantic involvement around then or any specific social party where you hope everything runs smoothly. Certainly do not walk down the aisle today, as it could lead to separation or divorce. Relationships formed now will be commenced under unusual or out-of-the-ordinary circumstances. Also possible is that one or both of the people involved will have an unconventional way about them or their job is not the usual run of the mill or 9 to 5 variety. Today can be disruptive for entertaining, so be prepared for complications and people acting up. However, sometimes the more out-of-the ordinary, the more fun it will be. Plan to have day of unusual entertainment and be a bit over the top in some way it may work out OK. Plan to shock or be shocked out of lethargy. This will definitely lift people out of the norm and give some a fresh perspective. Whoever you encounter today will be different to what you have been used to. So get ready for a walk on the wild side if the opportunity arises and don't stop to think about it or you will miss out on a brand new experience. The negatives are that things will not go as planned and new relationships can start very rapidly and end just as quickly. Not a particularly good day to get married, so I would advise against this.
Sunday 24 August 2003: Sun opposition Uranus. This alignment may send many into a spin of they expect all to go according to plan. Hiccups and disruptions are the order of the day and particularly those involving the aviation and television industries. Have that Plan B ready for whatever may crop up that you were not anticipating. Rebellious people will be on the prowl too so watch your back. There could be a disruption to someone in power that affects their position in life.
Wednesday 27 August 2003: Venus opposition Mars. Today we have the contentious aspect between Venus, the planet of love and harmony, and Mars, the God of War. This can be highly problematic when it comes to relationships. Men and women will generally speaking not see eye to eye, or they both have a totally different agenda. This is not a good day to have a first date, get engaged or married. There is too much potential discord and people only seeing the physical or exterior of each other rather than the true personality. Physical attraction will be the name of the game so if you are the sensitive, emotional and romantic kind, do not get involved with a new partner around this time as this is definitely not the roses and candlelight aspect. This is more than likely going to bring about hot and steamy encounters that often are not long lasting, though they can be if each person is highly evolved and mature. Advertising aimed at seductive techniques though could be highly rewarding and capture the necessary sexual fantasies of those who are vulnerable to such luring promises.
Friday 29 August 2003: Sun opposition Mars. Not a day to speed down the highway ignorant of other drivers on the road. Not a good day to travel and, in particular, in any vehicle that will take risks or go too fast. Not a day to even go on a risky amusement park ride as something may just go wrong. This is an accident prone day so do not buy a new car or other machinery, or attempt to cross the road when there is lots of traffic. Some people will go off half cocked and end up red faced if they try stepping on other people's toes unnecessarily. Someone in power may have some difficult problems to deal with that arises suddenly and has to be resolved without blinking. People will not be patient or feel like waiting around on a day like this. Definitely not a good day to start any new friendship, romance or get married or go into a business partnership.
Saturday 30 August 2003: Jupiter opposition Uranus. This is not the time to take risks with your savings, income or investments. Especially avoid major changes to your financial security that links up with your friends, as this can produce fallouts later down the track. Unexpected developments are likely to arise for those who take a gamble and then re-assess in the light of day, and realise they have made a huge mistake. Nothing small will be the result of any damage done today. Some gatherings or groups or committees may have some members departing from their posts. Sometimes it is over moral issues and the clashes will be productive of further chaos if you try to pull the reins in on those who have erratic views and opinions. It may be best to play it safe in all ways. Travel may be disruptive or produce sudden changes of schedule or timetables.
