L o o k i n g A Time To Be Thankful This month of December brings a mixed bag of planetary alignments. Overall there are 8 favourable and 8 not so helpful ones. It is therefore relatively easy to advise that we will be confronted with various dilemmas and problems to solve, and yet receive blessings in other, and perhaps even hidden places. We can make the most of the positive vibrations and spread good cheer during the festive season. We can also avert difficulties by not choosing the unhelpful days to make our moves or start new projects. The planets and the angles between them are there as guides to a happier way of life, for those who wish to use this ancient knowledge to steer you on the right course, rather than the wrong one. We all need to face challenges from time to time to enable us to grow and develop wisdom and understanding of our roles here on this lovely blue planet called Earth. Have you ever thought of how the Earth is spelt, and what could be the hidden message in the letters? Well, try this, take the last letter of the spelling of Earth and put it at the beginning. What does it spell? It spells Heart. Could this mean that our destiny is to learn to listen to our heart and love one another? There are several changes to the planets moving through the zodiac signs and these are, listed chronologically, Mercury moves into Capricorn on 3 December; Mercury turns retrograde on 17 December, and Mars moves into Aries on the same day. Then on 21 December Venus enters the liberating sign of Aquarius, and is followed closely by the entry of the Sun into Capricorn on 22 December. Uranus re-enters Pisces on 30 December and will remain in this sign until 29 May 2010. On New Years Eve Mercury re-enters the philosophical sign of Sagittarius in retrograde phase and will remain in that sign until 14 January 2004. As mentioned above, on Wednesday 3 December Mercury moves into Capricorn and stays there till New Years Eve. This can bring serious matters up for discussion, especially those involving conservative business industries and those that have been around a long time. Matters associated with the funeral industry may be under investigation for some reason and the real estate business may see some pressure to bring prices down. Overseas and foreign relations can also be strained and differences of opinion arise that show the things that divide rather than those that unify. However, this energy can be applied positively and used for serious study or dedication to a task until it is finished. There will be a Full Moon on Tuesday 9 December with the Sun in Sagittarius and the Moon in Gemini. This can lead to lots of debates and discussions where there are totally different opinions being expressed. Try to avoid getting caught up in senseless chattering and communications that will only leave you breathless. Then Mercury turns retrograde on 17 December and I will quote again from previous articles the influence of this phenomena. (See my feature article on my website for an in-depth comment on this). However briefly, it is a time when people seem to go into an indecisive mode, or they make a decision and then renege on it at a later time. For some though this can be a good period for mental reflection and deep thought to understand what it is that you truly want to do. Often writers are highly productive during this time and some people are able to get lots of paper work done. Some have to re-trace their steps, or send that fax twice, as there are glitches and hitches that can get in the way of clear communications. Not the time to make major decisions if you can help it. As this influence will last approximately 21 days, it can interfere with plans and arrangements, such as to do with travel and tickets, and time schedules. If you travel to a particular destination during this time, you may later go there again in the future. Mars is on the move today too, into his own sign of Aries, which is where Mars really likes to be, as he is at home there. This strong and energetic influence will last until 3 February 2004. Those who wish to start any new and enterprising project will feel the vibrations of this influence affect how quickly the job gets started. Basically the energies will be running high and this can be put to positive use by expressing yourself and using your muscles and enthusiasm to get things done. This is not the time to slack off or misdirect your energies. Those who go out of their way to cause problems for others will be wasting the better use of this time. Those on the receiving end of aggressive behaviour will hold resentment and anger towards their perpetrators. Mars is the God of War and in Aries this can be destructive and highly volatile. Those who harbour resentments or cannot healthily express their anger will feel they are being forced with their backs to the wall and all hell may break loose as a result. On Sunday 21 December sees the entry of beautiful Venus into the humanitarian sign of Aquarius for a stay of nearly a month. This could bring an attempt at peaceful negotiations if those 'powers that be' can lift themselves high enough to visualise the greater good for the world and those who live here. There may also be some sensational news regarding love affairs, romance and marriages that seem to arise out of unusual situations, or between people of very different backgrounds, cultures or age groups. Alliances and romances will be formed that seem to have something different or unique about them and they will prove to be the talk of the town. Some people will take the huge step from long term friendship to romance, taking themselves and each other by surprise. This is also a good time to start a new fashion house focussing on the out of the ordinary and the use of original ideas. The Sun moves into Capricorn around Sunday 22 December and this will bring traditional and conservative matters into the forefront of our lives, celebrating the Festive Season is a typical example of that. General business matters will flourish as we go shopping as if there is no tomorrow. We also become more family orientated and do what is considered the norm. I suspect there may be a VIP, or a member of parliament, who experiences some health concern, and in particular, perhaps one of the members of the British Royal family may undergo some crisis or there is a separation of some type associated with one or more members of this family. The New Moon in Capricorn occurs on Tuesday 23 December and I perceive this as there being a very traditional approach to Christmas and people want to do what their forefathers and foremothers did many moons ago. The family orientated traditions will be followed to the letter and if you rebel, you will probably be made to feel unwelcome or out of place, so do the right thing where possible. Uranus once again moves forward into the watery and mystical sign of Pisces on 30 December. This can represent a speeding up or acceleration of our spiritual progress or development for those of us who seek to understand our place in the scheme of things. As Uranus dips its toes into the deep Piscean ocean waters, the mystical energies of this sign will be aroused in new and explorative ways. The insightful and inventive Uranian energies will delve into the mysterious and hidden aspects of the Universe and present us with opportunities to see far beyond our normal senses. This is the time when we can open our eyes and our minds to new ways of looking at our selves, our choices, and go further along the path of understanding the meaning of life, its true purpose and why we are here. Around Wednesday 31 December the nimble messenger Mercury by retrograde motion moves back into philosophical Sagittarius. This can highlight the areas of opinions and beliefs and have people expressing their own ideas on what is the real truth or purpose of our existence, yet reflecting on whether this is really appropriate, or needs reassessing. We may also see a lot of changes and/or interest, in the travel industry and overseas matters and people coming to our attention, more so than usual.
Now down to the specifics of daily planetary activity. Wednesday 3 December: Sun sextile Neptune. This is a beautiful alignment between the Sun and Neptune. This is one of those days that will seem magical to those who are open and attuned to the cosmic vibrations around them. A positively inspiring day and one that will be long remembered as a day that brings the beautiful side of nature and life to our attention and the recognition that there are great wonders all around us, each and every day, if we just open our eyes and senses. Spend some time relaxing near the ocean and it will soothe your tired or restless soul. Music will be inspirational and those who are gifted in this area may create some magical lyrics or tunes. Opening a store selling musical or artistic products should fare well. Friday 12 December: Venus trine Jupiter. This is a brilliant day for getting engaged, married or starting a new romance or friendship. Also good for opening a new business, especially if is connected to women's products, entertainment, the travel industry or foreign relations. Throwing a lavish party will also meet with success, though could be very costly. Starting a long distance journey, voyage or holiday could prove to put you on a new learning curve and would be highly enjoyable and may result in a new love interest in your life, if you are single and fancy free. Monday 22 December: Sun sextile Uranus. This is a very electrical kind of day and one that can bring enormous excitement into people's lives. Be prepared for the unexpected and the unusual and you will not be disappointed. A great day to go exploring, visit a place you have never been to before, start a new and exciting job or business, especially if it connected to electronics, the Internet or aviation. Some people will come up with some potentially revolutionary ideas today and inventors will be inspired to bring something new and dazzling to the rest of us. New friendships started today will be very different to what you are used to and could literally turn your life around. Friday 26 December: Venus sextile Mars. Those in the business of selling will have a field day if they use the methods of 'sex sells' at this time. The seductive elements between these planets can be wielded on an innocent public who will actually lap it up like a pussycat with a bowl of milk. A good day to get married, engaged, go on a first date or start a business involved in capturing the imagination of those who are interested in what attracts one to another. Items such as perfumes and aftershaves will sell well today, or any other item that lures people to one another. Saturday 27 December: Sun conjunct Mercury. This is called a combust situation, where a planet is so close to the Sun and the Sun can literally burn up the other planet. This can cause a congestion of information on telephone lines, faxes, e-mails and even face to face communications, where one person is just not hearing the other or cannot seem to reach an agreement or get their heads together on the same issue. Postpone any really important negotiations until a better day. Those who are fast paced mentally will enjoy a day like this and they will not be agitated by the influx of interruptions or extra communications because they will literally thrive on it. At least they will not have a boring day. The rest of us will be somewhat frazzled by the end of the day and be seeking some quiet time away from the demands of this modern world. Wednesday 31 December: Venus conjunct Neptune. This is just wonderful for a first date, getting engaged or married or throwing a huge party or other social gathering. If you utilise the themes of the ocean, romantic or magical effects, the outcome will be truly fascinating for all those who participate. Musicians, artists and poets will be in their element with their thoughts and imagination flowing freely and inspired by the mystical aspects of the Universe. A good day to open a business focussing on the elements of beauty, flowers, crystals, perfumes and women's products. This could be a heavenly day. Some people may be lucky enough to find their soul-mate. This is a magical time and will colour over all misgivings and produce a haze of wonder and delight that will leave you gasping. New friendships or romances commenced today seem idyllic and will restore your faith in humanity. People generally will appear to be more caring and compassionate. A day when everything looks beautiful and inspirational. An ocean journey would be quite pleasurable to the senses or any other similar beautiful scenic location. A wisp of magical stardust will drift down from the heavens and gloss over today, inclining some romantic types to fall in love. The Sun will rise before you even had the chance to put out the candle lights. Wednesday 31 December: Retrograde Mercury sextile Uranus. Basically repeated from 2 December which suggests that "this is a day for the scientists, the astrologers, inventors, pilots and the aviation industry to be highly productive. Flashes of insight are possible for those who are open minded. A great day to launch a product that is original and designed to have some kind of shock appeal. Some people will get the best ideas they have ever come up with so start a brainstorming session today and it will continue well into the evening due to the high mental energy", however some may feel somewhat sluggish or just can't seem to catch the fast ace of events occurring around them and will end up flustered half way through the day.
The not so favourable days in December 2003 are: Wednesday 10 December: Sun square Jupiter. Not the kind of day to make promises that you later may find hard to keep. So don't try to talk or discuss philosophical issues with those in positions of power or associated with the legal sector of society. Some human rights may be violated on a day like this. Not the kind of day to be caught up in a big crowd as things can get out of hand and problems arise to do with large gatherings of people, especially near big buildings or law courts. Do not start any new business venture unless you have a lot of capital to back you up when things don't pan out as much, or as soon as, you had hoped for. I also would not recommend getting married as it may prove to be a heavy burden involving more than you can safely or adequately handle. Friday 12 December: Sun conjunct Pluto. This is a highly volatile and explosive angle that can erupt from out of nowhere and create chaos and ruin for those who take chances with their lives and their safety. A VIP or other person of high standing may take a fall or be held accountable for some misdeed from their past. Any secrets that are buried may be re-surfaced and exposed for all to see. This will be an ugly time for some as the underworld elements of this can be exposed and create unpleasant situations for people to try to extract themselves from. Not a good day to buy a car, go into business, get married, engaged or start a new job, friendship or other personal decisions that can reflect on oneself at a later time. Be careful who you associate with and do not trust strangers. Alleyways and dark places should be avoided like the plaque. Sunday 14 December: Mercury opposition Saturn. This is not the day to make agreements as they may involve regulations and obligations that tie you up in knots. There could be some serious decisions made that affect people long after the present. The Mercurial influence could be darkened by sombre Saturn's habit of making it difficult to see eye to eye and reach amicable agreements about any of these matters. However, those who are wise can instruct those who are not. Those who refuse to take a wider view will only alienate themselves from a comfortable position and find themselves on the other side of the wall. This though can be a good day for serious study. It is not good for purchasing land or other real estate. If you do, then make sure there are no potential problems to do with dampness or rising water levels in the area. Also on Sunday 14 December: Saturn quincunx Neptune. This angle became exact on 5 September this year and is being repeated again. This is actually a minor angle, which I do not usually mention, of a quincunx between Saturn and Neptune, which will also occur on Friday 5 September, and this has been brewing for a few weeks. This can be a time, covering several weeks, where the established order of things may dissolve or intentions are misunderstood, or deception is carried out in places of power, authority, and especially in government areas and previously strictly structured organisations. The walls may literally collapse or start to feel the strain. Someone in a high position may be side swiped or they disappear or drown. There may be a scandal in high places and some red faces to answer serious allegations of corruption or misuse of power. What was thought to be stable may become unstable. Ice may melt into the water. Snow capped mountains may experience major landslides. Monday 22 December: Retrograde Mercury opposition Saturn. (Repeated from Sunday 14 December). Friday 26 December: Retrograde Mercury square Mars. This can produce an argumentative influence. People will open their mouths before putting the brain into gear. Some will go off half-cocked, speak rashly or incite argument and conflict. Not the day to start a fight with any close friendships or relationships as heated words can be felt for a long time after this and lead to resentment and loathing. Hurt feelings will go deep and be remembered. Be wise and stick to routine and don't travel unless you absolutely have to. Do not buy a car or speed if driving. Accidents can happen at the most inconvenient time and if you are in a hurry, slow down, despite how late you will be. You will eventually get there if you can just focus on being the tortoise rather than the hare. Tuesday 30 December: Sun square Mars. Not a day to speed down the highway ignorant of other drivers on the road. Not a good day to travel and, in particular, in any vehicle that will take risks or go too fast. Not a day to even go on a risky amusement park ride as something may just go wrong. This is an accident prone day so do not buy a new car or other machinery, or attempt to cross the road when there is lots of traffic. Some people will go off half cocked and end up red faced if they try stepping on other people's toes unnecessarily. Someone in power may have some difficult problems to deal with that arises suddenly and has to be resolved without blinking. People will not be patient or feel like waiting around on a day like this. Definitely not a good day to start any new friendship, romance or get married or go into a business partnership. Planets Gaining Momentum Mars Energy Retrograde Planets What Is Astrology?
